Originally a Methodist Church it was opened on Christmas morning, 1875. It was built at a cost of 800 pounds by J Swann and the Mason C Hicks. In 1904 the stone Sunday School was built at the rear of the church. A porch was added in 1912 and a wood and iron kindergarten room in 1913. A series of memorial windows were installed in 1921 and a renovation was conducted on the ceilings. The new Sunday School was built in 1960 to 1961 and it was opened and dedicated by the Rev.D. F Cornish and C.J. Davis on the 28th of May 1961. The school hall was built by Messrs Walker and Denman. The porch is in memory of Elias Greenslade and the stone steps and pillars were placed as a war memorial at the front of the Church. The stones used for the building were quarried on Mr. Elias Greenslade’s farm now owned by Mr. Robert Saint, Mr. Greenslade’s great grandson. The Methodist and Congregational Churches in Maitland amalgamated in 1968 to become the Maitland Uniting Church.
